Online  application  form will be live at admission portal  of Gauhati University  from 22 May, 2019  after  5pm to 15 June, 2019. The  whole admission process will  be  fully  online, including payment of  application, entrance and admission  fee.









Eligibility

a) BA/BSc /B Com. (in  10+2+3 pattern)  with major  / honours courses in  the concerned subject or   BA/BSc /B Com. (in 10+2+3 pattern)  with a  general pass course  with at least 45% marks in  the concerned subject as  well  as in aggregate or  equivalent CGPA. [45% marks is  to be calculated on the basis of  marks obtained in Part I and Part II of  the (2+1) pattern and part I, part II and Part III of  the (1+1+1) pattern are eligible  to seek  admission to the  University  through the entrance test.  However, certain specific eligibility  criteria have been  fixed by  the concerned departments and  these are applicable especially  for  the interdisciplinary  subjects. 

b) Entrance  test  will  be held  for all  students and all  programs of study  for  admission, irrespective of  any  University  they  belong  to. 

c)  The admissions  will  be conducted on  the basis of merit   to be prepared as per  the guideline  in  the Admission Ordinance of  the University amended up  to date. 

d) 60%  weightage  will  be on UG marks/qualifying examination marks while  40% weightage will be on  the marks obtained in  the entrance  test  for  GU students applying to traditional  courses   against  the seats reserved exclusively  for  them. 

e)  The selection of  students  for admission into interdisciplinary programs of  study  will  be purely on  the basis of  entrance  test only.  This also applies  to other University  students applying  to any  Course. 

f)  The entrance  test  will  be of  100 marks of  two hours duration, if  otherwise not specified.  The proportion of descriptive questions and MCQs may  vary  with respect  to different subjects. 

g)  An applicant  who have completed a  Postgraduate Course  from GU on an earlier occasion or  got admitted into a  Postgraduate Course of  GU,  whether  completed or  not,  will  be considered  for fresh admission irrespective of  whatever  quota  he / she claims, if  any, only  when all fresh candidates including  those from  Wait List and all  statutory quotas, including other  quota like EC, NCC, Fringe  Village etc. are admitted and seats remain vacant. Alternatively,  he/she is not entitled  to admission    until  the  fresh applicants (first timers) are completely  admitted subject  to  fulfilment of  eligibility criteria. However,  these rules may  be relaxed in case of professional  courses coming under  the purview  of  regulatory bodies like  AICTE, NCTE, BCI, (courses like MBA, MTech, LLM, etc.). 



Reservation of  seats


  •  Schedule Caste:   7% 

  • Schedule Tribes  (Plains): 10% 

  • Schedule  Tribes (Hill): 5% 

  • OBC & MOBC:  15% 

  • Differently  Abled: 3% (for each Discipline of  Faculty) 

  • Sons and daughters of permanent GU Employees: 1 Seat in each dept  with intake capacity  40 or  less and 2 seats  when  the intake is more  than 40 students. 

  • Fringe Village:  10  seats 

  • GU Ex-Employees: 5 seats 

  • Ex- Defense:  As per  EC resolution 

  • Moran Community  of Assam: 2 seats. 

  • Extra  Curricular:  1 seat in each department. 

  • NCC & NSS: 5 seats.




University- wise  seat Matrix 


  • 50% seats in  traditional programmes of  study  are exclusively  reserved  for  GU students  while  they  can  also compete  for  the  remaining 50% seats along  with  the other  university  students. 

  • All interdisciplinary  seats are open  to all  students irrespective of  any  university to be admitted on  the basis of  merit of  entrance tests and other  eligibility conditions only.




Step  by  step AsmissiOn Process 


  • Students and parents/ guardians are advised  to  visit the  webpages of  particular departments and colleges  for neccessary  information they look  for.

  • Keep ready  all  documents and information required  to submit the Application  Form. 

  • Follow  the instructions step by step and proceed. 

  • An applicant can apply  to one  Traditional  Course and two Interdisciplinary  Courses only. Please check  the list of Traditional  and Interdisciplinary Courses. 

  • The Application  Form  for Admission is editable but once you pay  the  fee, it  will  no longer be editable. 

  • You can submit  the  form even if  your  result is not declared; you  will  be given a  few  days time from  5 July,  2019 to 15 July, 2019  to  feed  your  marks obtained in  the qualifying examination.   After  this period, the window  will  be  closed. 

  • The e-mail  id and phone number  of  the students and parents/guardians may  be used for  further  communication. 

  • Please check  the eligibility conditions before submission of  the Application.  Because, even if  you clear  the entrance test,  your  admission is subject to  fulfilment of  the eligibility criteria  of  the Course/Subject applied.  All  original  documents will  be  verified at  the  time of Admission. 

  • The provisional  merit list of students  will  be published in the University  website only. •  Appearance of  your  name in the provisional  merit list is not a  guarantee of  your  admission. It depends on  fulfilment of eligibility  conditions and intake of  the  department/colleges  for the concerned Course. 

  • All  are advised  to keep  visiting the  website  for  any  update regarding  the Admission  process from time to time.
