State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Assam has released the official notification for Pre-Entry Test (PET)-2026 for admission into the 2-Year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) course for the academic session 2026-2028. Eligible candidates who are permanent residents of Assam can apply online through the official PET portal. Admission will be offered in various NCTE-recognized Teacher Education Institutes (TEIs) including DIETs, CTEs, Normal Schools, BTCs, BITEs and Private Teacher Education Institutes across Assam.

Candidates will be selected on the basis of marks obtained in the Pre-Entry Test (PET)-2026 followed by online counselling, institute allotment and document verification. The total intake capacity for the 2026-28 session is 4150 seats across Assam.

🎓 Eligibility

  • The candidate must be a permanent resident of Assam.
  • The candidate must have passed Higher Secondary (HS) [10+2] examination from a recognized Board/Council.
  • Minimum 50% aggregate marks excluding optional/extra/fourth subject.
  • SC/ST(P)/ST(H) candidates will get 5% relaxation in aggregate marks.
  • The candidate must fulfill all eligibility criteria at the time of admission.

Candidates admitted in Government Teacher Education Institutes (DIET, CTE, Normal School, BTC, BITE etc.) will have to pay the following fees.

🏠 Hostel Facilities

  • Hostel accommodation may be provided free of cost subject to availability of seats.
  • Students must bring their own bedding, bucket, mug, dish, glass and other personal items.
  • If hostel seats are unavailable, students must arrange accommodation at their own expense.
  • Food expenses must be borne by the students themselves.

📚 Attendance Rules

  • Students must maintain at least 75% average attendance in all subjects of a semester.
  • Students with attendance below 75% will not be allowed to appear in Semester End Evaluation.
  • Attendance is compulsory throughout the course duration.

đŸšĢ Admission Cancellation Rules

  • If a student remains absent continuously for five working days from the first day of classes without prior information, admission may be cancelled.
  • The vacant seat may be filled from the waiting list.
  • Students unable to attend due to medical or unavoidable reasons must inform the Principal in writing along with supporting documents.
  • Providing false information during admission may lead to immediate cancellation.

Students who are not satisfied with their semester examination results may apply for re-evaluation by paying the prescribed fee.

⚠ Discipline & Academic Rules

  • Breaking institutional discipline may lead to disciplinary action.
  • Students may be debarred from appearing in semester examinations for misconduct.
  • Students must comply with all rules and regulations of the respective Teacher Education Institutes.
  • Attendance, academic performance and conduct will be monitored throughout the course.

📌 Important Note for Candidates

Obtaining the D.El.Ed. qualification does not automatically entitle a candidate to recruitment in Government Elementary Schools. Recruitment to teaching positions will be governed by the rules and procedures notified separately by the Government and concerned authorities.

All fees must be deposited through online mode into the designated bank account of the respective Teacher Education Institute. No cash transaction shall be entertained.
