    🎓 Eligibility

    • Eligibility by year: Candidates who first passed Class XII/equivalent in 2025 or 2026, or who are appearing in 2027, are eligible to appear in JEE (Main) 2027.
    • Not eligible by year: Those who passed Class XII/equivalent in 2024 or earlier are not eligible.
    • First passing year: The year the candidate was first declared pass in Class XII/equivalent determines the passing year. Improvement examinations and later additional-subject passes do not change it. Example in the bulletin: a 2025 pass in Physics, Chemistry and Biology followed by a Mathematics pass in 2026 is treated as 2025.
    • Appearing candidates: Class XII 2027 appearing candidates can enter their roll number, registration number or enrolment number in relevant application fields.
    • Qualifying exam (i): Final 10+2 examination of any recognized Central or State Board, including CBSE and CISCE.
    • Qualifying exam (ii): Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board/University.
    • Qualifying exam (iii): Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
    • Qualifying exam (iv): NIOS Senior Secondary School Examination with at least five subjects.
    • Qualifying exam (v): Examination of a public school/board/university in India or abroad recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to the 10+2 system.
    • Qualifying exam (vi): Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination.
    • Qualifying exam (vii): Diploma of at least three years recognized by AICTE or a State board of technical education.
    • Qualifying exam (viii): GCE examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at Advanced (A) level.
    • Qualifying exam (ix): Cambridge University High School Certificate Examination or International Baccalaureate Diploma, International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
    • Qualifying exam (x): Board of Open Schooling and Skill Education (BOSSE), Sikkim.
    • Qualifying exam (xi): Candidates passing Class XII/equivalent abroad or from an unlisted board must provide an AIU equivalence certificate.
    • Qualifying exam (xii): If Class XII is not a public examination, the candidate must previously have passed at least one public Board or Pre-University examination.
    • Institution eligibility: Eligibility to sit for JEE (Main) does not itself guarantee eligibility for admission. Each admitting institute may apply its own admission/qualification rules; candidates must check its official admission information.
    • State of eligibility: Determined by the State where Class XII/equivalent was first passed, not birth, domicile or present residence. An improvement examination in another State does not change the original State of eligibility.
    • NIOS/BOSSE: Select State of Eligibility as the State where the study centre is located.
    • Nepal/Bhutan: For Indian nationals completing Class XII in Nepal or Bhutan, the State code of eligibility is determined by the permanent Indian address on the candidate’s passport.
    • OCI candidates: OCI candidates passing Class XII in India are at par with Indian nationals for State eligibility; OCI candidates passing Class XII abroad may apply for All India quota seats, not Home State quota seats, at NITs, IIITs and other CFTIs.

    🧪 Selection Process

    • Candidates take the applicable JEE (Main) 2027 Paper 1, Paper 2A and/or Paper 2B as chosen at application.
    • NTA conducts the entrance test, hosts provisional and final answer keys, compiles NTA scores, declares results and publishes Common Rank List/category ranks; it does not conduct institutional admission.
    • Paper 1 scores are used for undergraduate engineering programmes and as an eligibility route for JEE (Advanced). Paper 2A is for B.Arch.; Paper 2B is for B.Planning.
    • The examination is offered in two sessions; attendance in both is not compulsory. Where a candidate takes both, the best Total NTA score of the two sessions is considered for overall ranking, not the best individual subject scores.
    • Multi-shift raw marks are converted to NTA percentile scores using the procedure in Appendix IV; scores are normalised for shift-level differences in question difficulty.
    • Ties are resolved according to the paper-specific subject-score and incorrect-to-correct-attempt ratio sequence provided in Chapter 2. Any unresolved tie receives the same rank.
    • Admission offers are made through the relevant JoSAA/CSAB seat-allocation procedure according to candidates’ choices and Common Rank List; original document verification is required at admission.
    • Candidates among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (including all categories) in the Paper 1 B.E./B.Tech. examination may meet the JEE (Main) rank requirement for JEE (Advanced) 2027, subject to all other JEE (Advanced) eligibility conditions.

Candidates may select up to four preferred cities, ordinarily within the State of their present/permanent address. Where insufficient city options are available, nearby-State options may appear subject to availability. Candidates with present or permanent address outside India must select at least one centre city in India. NTA may allot a different city, merge low-demand cities and change centres for logistical reasons; the final centre is shown on the Admit Card. The complete list of 310 listed exam cities and their codes is reproduced in the full-text source at the end of this article and visible in the embedded bulletin (Appendix II, pages 48–55 of the bulletin).

    ⚖️ Category-wise Reservation and PwD/PwBD Facilities

CategorySeats Reserved (as stated in the NTA bulletin)
    GEN-EWS10%
    OBC – Non-Creamy Layer27%
    Scheduled Castes (SC)15%
    Scheduled Tribes (ST)7.5%
Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD)5% of seats in each of GEN, GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC and ST categories
    • OBC-NCL reservation requires inclusion in the Central OBC list. OBC candidates covered only by a State list and those from the creamy layer cannot claim central OBC-NCL reservation; the latter are considered General/Unreserved.
    • GEN-EWS eligibility must follow prevailing Government of India norms and the cited Government memorandum. SC/ST and other reserved-category eligibility is subject to central lists and certificate verification.
    • State Government-run/aided/recognised institutions apply their respective State Government reservation policy.
    • PwBD generally means not less than 40% of the specified disability, supported by competent-authority certification. Applicable rules also cover some PwD candidates below 40% with certified writing difficulty.
    • Eligible candidates can use an NTA-provided scribe or their own qualified scribe. An own scribe must have a qualification one step below the candidate; submit the Annexure III undertaking.
    • For blindness, locomotor disability affecting both arms and cerebral palsy, scribe/reader assistance is made available on request under the applicable memorandum. Other eligible categories require the prescribed government medical certificate (Annexure I or II).
    • Eligible candidates receive compensatory time of at least 20 minutes per examination hour, and eligibility-dependent scribe arrangements according to Chapter 4. See original annexures for medical certification forms and medical-board composition.
    • For candidates who have applied to both sessions with the same application number, PwD/PwBD subcategory particulars cannot be changed during the Session 2 correction window.
    • Invalid/fake certificates or disability claims, or improper use of scribe/compensatory time, can cause exclusion from evaluation, ranking, counselling or admission and cancellation of an already granted admission.

🏆 NTA Score, Answer Keys, Results and Admission

    • Answer-key challenge: NTA posts provisional answer keys on its website, normally for two to three days; challenge fee is ₹200 per question (non-refundable). A paid challenge must be supported by evidence and submitted through the prescribed portal within the specified window.
    • Recorded responses: Candidate response sheets and attempted question papers are displayed before results, generally for two to three days. Download and retain them because they are not provided later.
    • Final keys: Subject experts consider paid challenges; NTA’s decision is final. Final keys are used to compile results. No grievances concerning keys are entertained after declaration of results.
    • Normalization: Shift-specific raw marks become NTA percentile scores. A percentile is the percentage of candidates in that shift with scores equal to or below the candidate’s raw score, calculated to seven decimal places. It is not the percentage of marks obtained; the total percentile is not an average of subject percentiles.
    • Session 1 and Session 2: NTA scores are prepared separately; candidates taking both sessions receive consideration based on the higher Total NTA Score. Overall rank lists are prepared after Session 2.
    • Paper 1 tie-break: Mathematics NTA score → Physics → Chemistry → lower incorrect/correct attempt proportion overall → lower corresponding proportion in Mathematics → Physics → Chemistry → same rank if still tied.
    • Paper 2A tie-break: Mathematics NTA score → Aptitude → Drawing → lower incorrect/correct proportion overall → Mathematics → Aptitude → same rank.
    • Paper 2B tie-break: Mathematics NTA score → Aptitude → Planning-Based Questions → lower incorrect/correct proportion overall → Mathematics → Aptitude → Planning → same rank.
    • Rank lists: Common Rank List and category ranks are published. Score/rank cards are downloadable only; no physical cards are posted. A final NTA score copy is also emailed to the registered address.
    • Seat allocation: JoSAA/CSAB use Common Rank List and candidates’ preferences for participating institutions; institutions using other processes may prepare their own lists. Admission documents are verified by the admission authority.
    • No rechecking: NTA does not allow reevaluation or rechecking of results. Other central/state organisations may use the JEE (Main) result under their own eligibility rules.
    • JEE (Advanced): Indian candidates should be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (all categories) in the JEE (Main) Paper 1, subject to the other criteria on the JEE (Advanced) official site.

For complete normalization calculations, example four-shift data, percentile formula, and policy on cut-off equivalence, see Appendix IV (pages 62–65) in the full bulletin reproduced below.

🏦 Payment Processing Charges and Support

    💻 Computer-Based Test (CBT) Guidance

    • NTA supplies an allocated computer terminal displaying the candidate’s roll number; the candidate must sit at the assigned terminal. A mock test is made available on nta.ac.in for practice.
    • Log in using the examination login ID/password and check the displayed photograph/subject; carefully read the screen instructions and marking scheme.
    • The examination screen shows a server-controlled countdown timer. The test ends automatically when the time reaches zero; there is no need to manually submit at the end.
    • The question palette indicates not visited, not answered, answered, marked for review without answer, and answered-and-marked-for-review statuses.
    • Use Save & Next to save an answer and move ahead, and Mark for Review & Next to save and mark a question for later reconsideration. Selecting another palette number alone does not save the current answer.
    • To change a response, select its question, clear or change the option/value and save again. Only answered questions, including those answered and marked for review, are evaluated.
    • Candidates can navigate between subject sections during the available examination time. The question-paper language may be switched on-screen by opening the profile menu, while the registered medium remains binding under the bulletin’s rules.
    • The keyboard attached to the test computer is disabled. Use the mouse and virtual onscreen numeric keyboard for numerical response questions.
    • On computer or mouse malfunction, staff should allot another computer and adjust the time lost at server level.
    • The original bulletin includes sample screenshots, explanations of all question-palette symbols, screen magnifier information and detailed navigation steps in Appendix III, pages 56–61.

⚠️ Unfair Means, Barred Items and Examination Conduct

    • Unfair means include having or using prohibited material; communicating/whispering/gesturing; copying from another computer screen; writing on hands/desks; exchanging answers; obtaining outside assistance; impersonation; threatening others; obstruction; and creating or passing prepared notes.
    • Fabricating or manipulating identity proof, admit cards, declarations, certificates, scores or photographs, uploading someone else’s photograph/signature, or producing altered disability certificates is forbidden.
    • Hacking, tampering with timers, USB devices, screen captures, Bluetooth/communication tools, leak of digital questions, and using another person’s login credentials are prohibited.
    • Entering or leaving the venue by force outside permitted times and sitting for a session more than once are treated under unfair-means provisions.
    • Sanctions may include withheld/cancelled results, disqualification, up to three years’ future debarment and criminal/legal proceedings. A committee reviews unfair-means matters.
    • Do not carry: books/papers/stationery, geometry/pencil boxes (except for the B.Arch. drawing-paper exception), scales, calculators, log tables, writing pads, electronic pens, scanners, USB drives, phone, Bluetooth devices, earphones, smart/ordinary wristwatches, smart glasses, health bands, cameras, bags, wallets, belts, caps, metallic jewellery or prohibited food containers.
    • Allowed exceptions listed in the bulletin: transparent water bottle; doctor-declared diabetic candidate’s whole unpacked fruit or sugar tablets; B.Arch. drawing materials for drawing test as specified.
    • Examination centres have no safe-keeping arrangements for bags or valuables, and NTA does not take responsibility for loss.
    • All exam-related disputes including results fall under Delhi/New Delhi jurisdiction; grievances against results must be raised within 30 days of declaration. Legal notices may be sent to legal@nta.ac.in.
